The role: Intrusion Analyst, Security Operations - Zurich

There's no such thing as a "safe system" - only safer systems. Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. As a Security Engineer, you help protect network boundaries, keep computer systems and network devices hardened against attacks and provide security services to protect highly sensitive data like passwords and customer information. Security Engineers work hands-on with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. You also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities. You identify solutions for common security problems while participating in security reviews/audits and execute single-component or small multi-component project with little to no direction.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in a 24/7 operation that monitors for and responds to security events on Google's networks, including working with external entities, where necessary.
  • Improve internal investigation capabilities for responding to security events through tool building and training.

Minimum qualifications:

  • BS in a relevant field (In lieu of degree, relevant skills or equivalent work experience).
  • Experience must have an emphasis on network and computer security.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in responding to security problems in target-rich environments, including looking at security alerts, front-line analysis and escalation.
  • Programming experience in C, Java, Perl or Python.
  • Desire to make the Internet a safer place.
  • Familiarity with logs and intrusion detection systems.
  • Expertise in common forensics tools such as Encase, FTK and SleuthKit.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, triage and escalate malware, including investigations of botnet and rootkit behavior.
